Providing the Next Step for those in need

NSA is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2016 by founding Chairperson, Bernadette Blair, who recognised a need for essential manchester items to be provided to women and children fleeing domestic violence and seeking a fresh start. In Australia, sadly statistics show that 1 in 4 women experience intimate partner violence and domestic and family violence is the principal cause of homelessness for women and their children. As part of our DESIGN for GOOD by Edison program we partnered with Next Steps Australia (NSA) to help them deliver a more impactful brand story and visual language system that amplified their voice, created powerful new assets and enabled increased funding opportunities that will have real community impact.

The strategic design brief centred around the need to create new brand assets and a consistent visual language that could be applied to across all aspects (print & digital) of the organisation’s communication ecosystem. Providing NSA with a concrete brand platform and strategy it is with great pride that the outcomes of this partnership has resulted in higher awareness of NSA and increased funding to have impact where it matters - reaching more women and families, from more communities in need.

Culminating in a contemporary new brand asset library, style-guide, internal templates and collateral suite, the fresh new look is set for implementation across all communication platforms in 2024. In collaboration with the NSA team and with a strong emphasis on human-centered design solution, the new brand system is warm, gentle and strong. Designed using symbolism that reinforced the security of home with a calm, soft colour palette that provided a strong connection to the existing former brand. Handcrafted patterns and textures were weaved throughout as a symbol of the starter packs fabric, working with modern illustrations of people and textures to bring warmth and empathy.

Serving the needs of NSA to present their value as a viable community partner of choice, the new visual language and collateral quickly resulted in securing an additional $300k funding across three years which will finance NSA’s Future Steps Project.  With newly trademarked brand assets, identity tools and templates, the NSA team are looking forward to helping more Australian women and children get back on their feet with integrity and hope.
