In Episode One of Bite Big, I had the absolute privilege of sitting across from Ally Doube, head of marketing for Uber and Uber Eats Japan, during cherry blossom season in Tokyo. And honestly? There couldn’t have been a more perfect metaphor for our chat than those fleeting, beautiful blooms: delicate, bold, and full of change.
Ally’s personal mantra is unapologetically real:
“Cut through the bullshit, make really cool shit, live for the real shit, and help people find it.”
It’s bold, honest, and refreshingly unfiltered. Just like her.
But here’s the thing, it’s not just a tagline. It’s a leadership blueprint for women navigating high-stakes, high-performance roles in today’s business world. And it's exactly the kind of thinking we created Bite Big to celebrate.
In a world addicted to complexity and corporate buzzwords, Ally’s first principle is about clarity. Whether it's politics, red tape, or overloaded strategy decks, her goal as a leader is to get to the core. That’s where real decisions get made. That’s where progress lives.
And she’s not afraid to call it like it is.
For Ally, being a “cut-through” leader isn’t about being abrasive, it’s about being focused. It's about eliminating fluff so teams can focus on what actually moves the needle. In a culture of performative productivity, that kind of directness is rare and deeply valuable.
Now let’s be clear, when Ally says “cool,” she’s not talking about trendy or flashy. She’s talking about effective. Marketing that works. Creative that earns attention. Innovation that drives real results.
In an industry often obsessed with vanity metrics, Ally’s version of “cool” is rooted in impact. Because in her world, if it doesn’t work, it’s just noise.
And that’s a lesson for all of us: whether you’re building a campaign or your own career, don’t just aim to be seen, aim to be felt.
This might be the most important part of her mantra and the most personal.
After losing her mother at 28, Ally was forced to re-evaluate what actually matters. The lesson? Work is not your life. It can be fulfilling, it can be meaningful, but it shouldn’t be all-consuming.
That insight has become a guardrail in her leadership. Today, she checks in with herself, her team, and her community to make sure they’re not burning out chasing someone else’s version of success.
And here's the kicker: balance isn’t a weakness, it's wisdom. True leadership is knowing when to go hard, and when to go home.
The final pillar of Ally’s mantra speaks to her role as a mentor, a connector, and a community builder. She's the kind of leader who says your name in a room full of opportunity. The kind who believes in raising the hive, not just the queen bee.
Whether it’s tipping someone in for a role, coaching a team member to find their purpose, or just being a fierce advocate for other women, Ally’s impact goes beyond KPIs. It’s human. It’s lasting.
And it reminds us that real influence is measured by how many people you bring with you.
One of the most powerful themes in our conversation was the idea that being a boss doesn’t mean knowing it all, it means showing up, anyway. Ally talks candidly about imposter syndrome, the pressure to “perform” in male-dominated rooms, and the cultural adjustments she’s faced working in Japan.
Her advice? Fake it till you make it: but do it with self-awareness and integrity.
Because here’s the truth: nobody has it all figured out. And that’s okay. What matters is resilience. Reflection. And being brave enough to bloom, even when you’re scared sh*tless.
When I asked Ally what her “biggest B moment” was, she said “bloom.” It couldn’t be more perfect.
To bloom is to stretch, to risk, to step into the unknown. It’s growth through imperfection. And it’s the heart of what Bite Big stands for.
So here’s to cutting through the noise, making work that matters, living real, and lifting each other up.
Here’s to blooming boldly.
Directness is a superpower - cut through the clutter to lead with clarity.
Cool isn’t cosmetic - real impact is what matters.
Balance is brave - protect your peace.
Mentorship multiplies - be the person who says someone’s name in the room.
You don’t have to know it all - just be willing to keep showing up.
